I have long supported Cr. Simms attempts to stall this massive possibly unnecessary expenditure by arguing that Dunedin may be better served by using existing landfills for problematic putrescent waste by using AB Lime’s facility in Winton and/or Taiko Landfill south of Timaru.
Putting a whole lot of money up front and trying to duplicate what AB Lime and Taiko already do, and have already paid the massive infrastructure for, may not be the best thing for Dunedin.
The majority of Dunedin waste is commercial and already taken by local contractors Nash and Ross Ltd. and Hall Bros.Transport.
