I am a bit miffed at not being included in the list of DCC Councillors – Galer, Lund and Simms accused of “publicly criticising the Council” as targeted by Orma Bradfield of Broad Bay in her letter to the Editor of 03/10/26.
Orma’s expectation that Crs should work out their differences “within Council” and “present a united front to the public” sounds to me like an anti-democratic politburo approach where groupthink prevails and public challenging of spending or doctrine is forbidden.
Historic success of such imposed governmental conformity can be measured in millions of corpses.
My role as a Councillor includes public challenge, but perhaps my criticisms on FaceBook and my archival blog leevandervis.com are not enough.
Do I need to criticise on Instagram and Tick-tock as well?
Please Orma, tell me what extra I need to do to earn my keep as a Councillor and join the ranks of those more publicly challenging poor DCC value, like $600,000 and $4.6 million playgrounds, $450,000 and $750,000 toilets, and $1.2 million roundabouts…
